The Stanley A. Milner Library is Edmonton’s downtown public library. In the past, SHINE volunteered at the library through a weekly outreach program in which volunteers got to know the youth at the library, provided them with health information and resources, and answered health-related questions. Due to renovations in the library, SHINE is no longer operating through this site.
iHuman Youth Society is a non-profit organization in Edmonton that helps high-risk youth. SHINE currently volunteers at iHuman on a weekly basis through two programs: Friday Night Challenge and Cooking with SHINE. Click here for more details on these programs (hyperlink this to the services page).
The community-owned Boyle McCauley Health Centre responds to the unique needs of Edmonton’s inner city. Along with Capital Health and other stakeholders, we improve the health of individuals and the community by providing a range of primary health and health promotion services to those with limited access.
Our sister organization, SHINE Dentistry, is a non-profit dental clinic operated by the dental students of the University of Alberta. Based in the Boyle McCauley Health Centre, the clinic runs most Saturdays throughout the year and provides free dental care to low-income and inner-city youth. Dental work is performed by volunteer dental students, who are assisted and supervised by licensed dentist preceptors.
